The Marine & Fisheries Group Board of Trustees is composed of distinguished business executives, academics, former government officials and community leaders. Trustees serve three-year terms and meet three times a year. These distinguished individuals serve as wise and effective stewards of the Company, helping to drive the transformation of marine & fisheries that lies at the heart of the Broad group’s mission. The Board’s role is also to provide governance of the business and affairs of the Institution, and safeguard the independence of the Institution’s work.

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
This environmental science course is designed to meet the needs of the student who wishes to obtain an in-depth awareness of coastal and marine systems. The course will include a study of Celestial and coastal Navigation, the physical, chemical and geological aspects of oceanography, marine biology, the coastal environment and the interrelationships among the disciplines.
Students will be required to complete projects and papers throughout the course of the year. A rubric for grading will be provided when assignments are made. Students will be given a due date for the assignment on the day the rubric is provided. Students who need assistance with their assignments should contact their teacher prior to the assignment due date. The assignments listed below will be assigned during the course of the Institute year.
Writing: A variety of writing assignments will also be incorporated into the curriculum these will support the SMFSI implementation of the Common Core Standards in all subjects.
Technology: Students will regularly use power points as they design presentations and write papers. Smart Board use will be a regular part of this course that will be used to more actively engage the students in the learning process.

The Somali Marine and Fisheries Science Institute (SMAFSI) has a six-part mission to conduct interdisciplinary navigation, fish technology, craft technology, seamanship/sea survival, marine environment and ICZM, educate students and citizens, and provide advisory service to policy makers, industry, and the public. SMAFSI provides these services to Puntland, the nation, and the world.
In order to efficiently carry out our responsibilities in teaching and research, the Institute has been organized into three departments including: Navigational department, Fishing technology department and Marine environment department. These each comprise a large number of sub-institutes, and some additional institutions with special duties are directly controlled by the MAFCG. all Departments is headed by a principal and an Institute Council, comprised of the Principal, 3 or 5 professors, 2 other academic staff, and 2 non-academic staff.

Collaboration between RMSN and the SMFSI enables students who are interested in marine resource management and policy to complete additional course work for a sub-concentration in marine resource management with successful honorary certificates.

One prime objective of this institute is to produce highly trained graduates to develop the marine resources of the country. SMFSI is one of leading academic organization in the field of marine sciences and fisheries studies in Puntland Somalia. It produce skilled technical personnel in marine science and its related disciplines, carry out assessments on marine and coastal eco-systems, cooperate Ministry of Fisheries Marine Resources and other International organizations. The Institute organizes training, workshops on marine and fisheries issues. SMFSI teachers and students conduct assessments to nearer coastal villages in Bari region.
